June 1 was National Trails Day. WMHCTA members worked on projects in both Union and Wallowa counties. In Wallowa County, Holly Akenson and John Hollenbeak led a crew of eight folks, plus two mules, clearing trails in the Freezeout Saddle area of Hells Canyon. Although snow and mud created challenges, a lot of work got done, and as Randi Jandt said, “There was some really beautiful country!”
