Wallowa Mountains Hells Canyon Trails Association

Lower Imnaha Trail #1713 Work Party

March 13, 2021

It was all blue skies and sunshine for our 2021 kickoff trail maintenance project along the Imnaha River. Eleven volunteers put in a collective 100 hours clearing brush (mostly Himalayan blackberries, hackberry trees, and poison ivy) from the trail, removing rockfall, repairing rockslide, and reestablishing or rerouting tread. We split up into three groups and tackled it in sections, with one group hiking down to the Imnaha-Snake Rivers confluence and working their way back to the trailhead. We even got a special treat during our lunch break in the cool shade of the canyon wall watching a herd of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep play and graze across the river.
