SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER

October 14-15:  Chainsaw Training & Certification

TRAINING EVENT DETAILS:  Chainsaw Training and certification.  Located in Enterprise, OR.   Classes will start on Friday evening with a 2-3 hour indoor Lecture/PowerPoint session.  The indoor portion will continue on Saturday morning and then we will go to Hurricane Creek for the outdoor portion with hands-on work with the saws.

October 21-22:  Crosscut Sawyer A & B and Recertification Training

We will be working from a car camp at the PO Saddle trailhead and doing day trips down the 3 trails that lead to the bench halfway down into Hells Canyon.  Volunteers can join us for just a day or two of their choosing or come for the whole 5 days.    There will be travel days on the first and last day of the trip, with a rest day in between.

TRAIL INFORMATION: This trail is found at the Oregon Department of Wildlife Lostine Wildlife Area.  Trail is following the old Fire Road above the flats that switchbacks over to the Silver Creek drainage. 

PROJECT DETAILS: Meet at 8:30am, at the parking lot for the Lostine Wildlife Area, off Lostine River RD.  Brush out, manual weed removal, and tread maintenance for 2.25 miles to the USFS boundary.

August 25-28:   Sullivan Creek #2

TRAIL INFORMATION: Sullivan Creek #1946

PROJECT DETAILS: This a backpacking trip, bring any overnight sleeping and food supplies.   Meet at E. Eagle Creek Bridge nr. Eagleton, leaving a parked vehicle for later shuttle back to trailhead; hike with packs from E. Eagle Creek TH up Little Kettle Creek Trail to mile 2.66 (fir tree at switchback, +1,440’ elevation); remove brush .1 mile up and .2 mile down trail; continue hike to fir grove (approx. .5 mile distance) to remove 24” log and make camp near stream.

Sunday 8/27: Hike to Crater Lake (3.+/-, +1,200’ elevation), removing 17+ logs and triage brushing; make camp.

Monday 8/28: Hike Cliff River Trail to Sullivan Creek Trail Junction (3. miles,+ 400’ elevation); descend (6.5 miles, -3,720’ elevation) to trail terminus and exit to E. Eagle Creek Bridge, recon trail alignment and conditions, remove logs and brush as needed, eta 4:30p at parked vehicle and 4 mile shuttle to E. Eagle Creek Trailhead.

TRAIL INFORMATION: This trail is found at the Oregon Department of Wildlife Lostine Wildlife Area.  Trail is following the old Fire Road above the flats that switchbacks over to the Silver Creek drainage. 

PROJECT DETAILS: Meet at 8:30am, at the parking lot for the Lostine Wildlife Area, off Lostine River RD.  Work either day or both.  Primarily loper and handsaw work to continue our previous work clearing brush and moving tread away from steep dropoffs on the trail up the old Fire Road over to the Silver Creek drainage.

September 29: Big Sheep Bog (Tenderfoot TH Bog Repair)

TRAIL INFORMATION: Tenderfoot Trail 

PROJECT DETAILS: Repair a boggy spot at the creek crossing at the Tenderfoot Trailhead.  This has been a sloppy crossing for many years, but our crew is planning to work with the USFS to build it up and install culverts.
