Learning by Doing

Volunteers use rope rigging training to salvage and secure the BC Creek Bridge.

WMHCTA Trainings and Certifications offer hands-on training by instructors with decades of wilderness experience. Best of all, they are free to members.

Some trainings we offer are:

  • Chainsaw Certification

  • Crosscut Saw Certification

  • Backcountry Stock Use & Safety

  • Rope Rigging Training

  • First Aid Certification

  • Backcountry Navigation

  • Sawyer Levels A, B, and C are offered twice per year. Participants learn the basics of chainsaw use and care, and how to evaluate and plan complex cuts on the trail.

  • Sawyer A, B & C levels offered twice per year. Participants learn the basics of crosscut use and care, and how to evaluate and plan complex cuts on the trail.

  • Learn more about safely using, packing, and working around stock in the backcountry.

  • Learn how to utilize a rope and pulley system to move hazards safely off the trail.

  • Basic first aid training for responding to medical issues in the backcountry.

  • Become more familiar and comfortable with using traditional and new forms of backcountry navigation.
