Project Calendar
Trail projects include single-day trips as well as multi-day overnight excursions. Some trips offer the option to use stock. To participate in these trips, membership is required. For information on joining WMHCTA, please click here.
By working on trail projects, members build lasting friendships, become part of a vibrant trail community, and acquire valuable outdoor skills that positively impact local trails.

Itinerary: This trip will work doing logout and brushing along the upper Sugarloaf area descending into the Deadman trail to the Upper Imnaha River.

Itinerary: Maintenance & general upkeep of the historic structures and grounds.

Itinerary: Join us for the day working along the HAWK High School crew improving tread and moving rocks.
Upper Chief Joseph Trail #1803

Trail: Chief Joseph Trail #1803
Itinerary: Join WMHCTA and the Wallowa Resources HAWK crew for a day project on the upper part of Chief Joseph Trail #1803. Starting at the marina parking lot near the fish cleaning station at Wallowa Lake State Park, we will cut out logs and work on tread from the intersection of the Marina trail to the intersection of the Knob and Chief Joseph Summit social trails.

Itinerary: Join us for the day working along the HAWK High School crew doing logout and brushing along the beautiful Tenderfoot Wagon Road Trail.
Upper Minam River Trail #1673
Project Name: Upper Minam River Trail #1673
Project Dates: July 8-13, 2026
Area: Minam River Region
Trail: Elk Creek Trail #1944, Minam River Trail #1673
Itinerary: This stock supported trip will start at the Buck Creek Trailhead near the Middle Fork of Catherine Creek. We will hike over Burger Pass and down to the Minam River at the mouth of Elk Creek where we will establish a base camp. From there we will clear fallen trees both up and down the Minam River as far as possible. Stock can carry personal gear for hikers.

Area: Southeastern Wallowas/Sugarloaf region
Trails: Twin Lakes Trail #1874
Itinerary: Based out of the Twin Lakes Campground, we will clear the Twin Lakes Trail down to the Imnaha River at Blue Hole (2.5 miles mostly Wilderness). We will then work toward the East Sugarloaf Trail from the trailhead at Twin Lakes to Russell Mtn (2.0 miles non-Wilderness).

Trails: Standley Ridge Trail# 1677, Washboard Trail #1680, Bear Lake Spur #1653A, Chimney Lake-Wood Lake Trail #1659, Bowman Trail #1651
Itinerary: This trip will work doing logout, brushing, and tread work starting at Bear Wallow TH. We will work down Washboard ridge, over to Bear Lake, then shortcut to Hobo Lake, working down trail toward Wood Lake, and exiting out the Bowman trailhead. This trip is for experienced hikers only.
Granite Gulch Trail #1676

Area: Minam River Region

Itinerary: This trip will start at the Buck Creek Trailhead near the Middle Fork of Catherine Creek. We will hike over Burger Pass and down to the Minam River where we will establish a base camp. From there we will work to clear downed trees from the Granite Trail which climbs up to Swamp Lake on the North Minam Trail. Stock can carry personal gear for hikers.
Jim White Ridge Trail #1918

Area: Minam River Region
Trail: Horse Ranch Trail #1908, Jim White Ridge #1918
Itinerary: This trip will start at the Moss Springs Trailhead above Cove, Oregon. We will hike down the Horse Ranch Trail to the junction with the Jim White Ridge Trail where we will establish a base camp. From there we will work to clear downed trees up Boulder Creek and along the top of Jim White Ridge. Stock will be available to help carry personal gear for hikers to and from base camp.
Blue Creek Trail #1865
Project Name: Blue Creek Trail Project
Project Dates: August 14-17
Area: Southeastern Wallowas/Sugarloaf region
Trails: Sugarloaf Trail #1877W, Blue Creek Trail #1865
Itinerary: We will meet at Deadman TH, backpacking to the Sugarloaf Trail Junction, then log/brush west to Blue Creek Trail Junction (approximately 4.0 miles). We will then work down to the Imnaha River Trail Junction (4.3 miles).
Sand Pass/Mule Peak Trail Project
Project Name: Sand Pass/Mule Peak Trail Project
Project Dates: August 27-30
Area: Southwestern Wallowas, S. Fork Catherine Creek Region
Trail: Sand Pass Trail #1912, Mule Peak Trail #1924
Itinerary: This trip will start at the Sand Pass/ Pole Creek Trailhead on the South Fork of Catherine Creek. We will hike up to the basin SE of Sand Pass and establish a base camp. From there, we will work to clear fallen trees on both the Sand Pass and Mule Peak trails.
Dobbin/Crib Point Trail Project
Project Name: Dobbin/Crib Point Trail Project
Project Dates: September 3-6
Area: Western Wallowas, Moss Springs TH
Trail: Lackey’s Hole #1942, Dobbin Trail #1913, Crib Point Trail #1909
Itinerary: This trip will start at the Moss Springs Trailhead. We will hike 2 miles along Lackey’s Hole Trail to the junction with the Crib Point Trail where we will establish a base camp. From there we will work to clear trees and brush from both the Dobbin and Crib Point Trails.
National Trails Day: West Fork Wallowa River Trail Project

Trail: West Fork Wallowa Lake Trail #1820
Itinerary: Join us for a National Trails Day work project! Starting at Powerhouse TH at Wallowa Lake, we’ll hike up the West Fork Trail, cutting out logs as we go. We’ll work to get 5 miles up, where logs and debris are blocking the trail.
Upper Imnaha Trail #1816 (FULL)

Itinerary: This stock supported trip will work doing logout and brushing along the Upper Imnaha Trail, up to Lick Creek trail and the Forks, then working along the N. Fork Imnaha River if able.
Horse Ranch Trail #1908

Area: Western Wallowas/Moss Springs TH
Trails: Horse Ranch Trail #1908
Itinerary: This is a 2-day backpack trip starting at Moss Springs Trailhead and working to clear downed trees from the trail to Red's Horse Ranch. We will also do some brush removal and repair a section of trail tread where a large tree tipped over and the root wad took the trail away leaving an impassable hole. This trip is partly a training trip with our WMHCTA Hosted Crew, but we would welcome all volunteers to join us as well. We will be camping one night at the mouth of Boulder Creek and returning to Moss Springs.

Saddle Creek Switchback Rock-Out

Itinerary: Meet and camp at Freezeout TH. This is a stock-supported trip. Hike three miles and work from Freezeout saddle down Saddle Creek Trail clearing medium rocks from trail.
College Creek Ranger Station

Area: Upper Imnaha River
Itinerary: Maintenance & general upkeep of the historic structures and grounds.
East Fork Wallowa River #1804

Itinerary: Logout, both chainsaw and crosscut work to cut out trees along the trail. Will work up to the dam.
Saddle Creek-High Trail

Itinerary: This stock supported trip will camp along the High Trail on the Hell’s Canyon side, working down along Saddle Creek Trail to the Snake River.
Devil’s Gulch Trail
Project Name: Devil’s Gulch Trail Project
Project Dates: Sunday, March 22
Area: Little Sheep Creek/Imnaha HWY 350
Trails: Devil’s Gulch Trail
Itinerary: This is a one day project leaving from the Joseph Public parking lot next to Winding Waters Rafting at 9:00 am. Carpooling available. Brushing and light logout.
